Of Friends and Folly

New Moon completely changes the tone of the series so far.

In Twilight, Bella and Edward's love for each other set a joyful mood, although sometimes it hinted at impending danger because of Jacob's infatuation for Bella.

Now, in New Moon, everything is dark and menacing. Edward is gone, and for Bella, the world is empty. Jacob is left like a lantern in the thick night. However even Jacob's light is tainted- he hints at the power of Sam Uley's cult and is afraid that he will be their next victim. So while reading the book, the reader is left with a sense of hopelessness.

We can only guess what will happen next... how much longer will Bella be able to survive when everything that she loves is crumbling to the ground?

Contemplation

Books are interesting.

Especially New Moon, my quarter 2 outside reading book. :)

When you start reading a book, it somehow manages to crawl into your life. You turn around, and it's there. It seeps through the cracks of your mind like honey... somehow events remind you of the plot, places remind you of the setting, people remind you of the characters...

If any of you have any musical sense, you will go and download the Camille Saint-Saens Cello Concerto 1. Go. Now.
And if you just can't get enough classical music, go download the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto 2.
Run!

All My Sons, analyzing...

Even though All My Sons is a play, there were a lot of literary aspects in it that made a very effective experience for the reader.
First off, there is the dramatic plot and storyline... no-one would ever guess what comes next, which is a quality shared with good literature.
Also, dialogue between characters added a lot of dimension into the play, which is another literary device also used in stories.
Finally, the character development really was extraordinary in the play. I felt like I could relate with every character, even though they all had such different outlooks and ideas.
For all these reasons, All My Sons used literary aspects of drama very effectively.
